5 Best Dog Friendly Cafes in St Kilda, Melbourne. (2024)

St Kilda is a treasure trove of lively cafés that are not only renowned for their food and coffee but also for their warm hospitality towards furry friends. As a proud dog owner and café enthusiast, I’ve scoped out the best spots where you can grab a bite and enjoy a coffee with your pooch by your side. Here are some personal favorites:

1. Neighbours Café

Location: 101 Inkerman Street, St Kilda

Whenever I’m in the mood for a cozy brunch, I love heading to Neighbours Café. This charming spot welcomes dogs with open arms, with a beautiful outdoor courtyard where they can lounge comfortably while you sip on your latte. The laid-back atmosphere makes it feel like a home away from home for both humans and pups.

The food here is a winner too! Personally, I can never resist their Smashed Avo or the hearty Breakfast Burrito. And if you’re more of a coffee connoisseur, I highly recommend their Golden Latte, which adds a unique touch to the traditional coffee experience.

What to try: The Shakshuka is a standout, with reviews consistently praising its rich, spicy flavors. For something light but delicious, the Acai Bowl is a favorite amongst locals.

2. Fitzrovia Location: 2/155 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda

At Fitzrovia, both you and your dog will feel like royalty. With its prime location near the beach, this café offers gorgeous views and a chic interior that’s perfect for a relaxing meal after a walk with your pup. The staff are incredibly dog-friendly, often bringing out water bowls and treats for furry visitors.

On the food front, Fitzrovia is known for its farm-to-table approach. The Ricotta Hotcakes are my go-to for brunch—fluffy, light, and bursting with flavor. And on cooler days, I’ve enjoyed warming up with their fragrant Duck Ragu.

What to try: The Polenta Chips have garnered rave reviews, and the Baked Eggs are another must-try for brunch lovers.

Location: 203 Carlisle Street, Balaclava

For a casual yet vibrant atmosphere, Las Chicas never disappoints. I often stop by with my dog for a quick bite or weekend brunch. This place buzzes with energy and the outdoor seating is perfect for dogs to relax while you catch up with friends over great food.

Las Chicas is known for their breakfast options, and I can’t go past their Corn Fritters—crispy, golden, and full of flavor. On a sweeter note, their French Toast is perfect for when you’re craving something indulgent.

What to try: The Corn Fritters come highly recommended by regulars, and for something on the lighter side, the Green Smoothie Bowl is a refreshing pick-me-up.

4. Rococo

Location: 87 Acland Street, St Kilda

Rococo is one of those places where you can feel the lively atmosphere as soon as you walk in. What makes it even better is their love for dogs! The outdoor seating area is spacious and perfect for dining with your pooch while enjoying the vibrant Acland Street vibe.

On the food front, Rococo excels at classic Italian dishes. Their Linguine Marinara is a seafood lover’s dream, with fresh, rich flavors that make it a standout. And if you’re in the mood for pizza, their Margherita is always a solid choice—simple yet satisfying.

What to try: You can't go wrong with the Linguine Marinara or the Prawn Risotto, both dishes that are consistently praised for their fresh ingredients and bold flavors.

5. Galleon Café

Location: 9 Carlisle Street, St Kilda

The Galleon Café has an effortlessly cool vibe that feels quintessentially St Kilda. I’ve brought my dog here numerous times, and we both love the chilled-out atmosphere and friendly service. The outdoor seating area is dog-friendly, and you’ll often see a mix of locals and their furry companions lounging in the sun.

The menu here is diverse, with plenty of delicious options. My personal favorite is the Big Veggie Breakfast, which is hearty and packed with fresh produce. They also make a killer Chai Latte, perfect for those slow weekend mornings.

What to try: The Big Veggie Breakfast comes highly recommended, and their range of smoothies are equally popular, especially the Green Detox Smoothie.

Whilst you're in the area, you can also try Elwood's best dog friendly cafes!
